Edgefield County plant expansion to add 17 jobs

 South Carolina economic development officials on Tuesday announced an $11.5 million expansion of the Bon­dex Inc. manufacturing plant in Trenton, which is expected to create 17 jobs.The maker of thermally bonded nonwoven substrate materials said the expansion will allow it to enter the flexible electrical insulation market and “provide a wide range of spunlace fabrics in various market segments,” Bondex President Steven Fransoso said in a statement issued by the South Carolina Department of Commerce.The company, founded in 1996, is off U.S. Highway 25. It is part of the United Kingdom-based multinational manufacturing firm Andrew Industries Ltd.In 2012, the company invested $6 million into an expansion that added 33,000 square feet to the facility, which doubled the size of the operation and created 13 jobs.The expansion announced Tuesday received a $100,000 “set-aside” grant from the state Coordinating Council for Economic Development to Edgefield County to help cover construction costs.“Bondex is an important member of our industrial community in Edgefield County, and we sincerely appreciate their continued growth in our county,” Edgefield County Council Chairman Dean Campbell said in a statement. “These new jobs and investment are important to Edgefield Coun­ty, and we look forward to continuing an already-strong partnership with Bondex.”
