Outside Sales Rep - Lubbock, TX

JOB TITLE:   Outside Sales Rep

DEPARTMENT: Advertising



Working under the supervision of the Client Success Advertising Director; make sales calls (both in person and by phone) on a daily basis to achieve the monthly sales goals.  Know each business decision maker; be familiar with each account’s advertising program; help in developing strategies to mutually benefit the advertiser and A-J Media.  Read newspaper daily.


  • College degree preferred.
  • Previous sales experience important.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well under deadline situations.
  • Must be able to manage time and multi-task.
  • Computer literate with typing skills.  Competency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Must be able to also operate copy machine, fax machine, telephone.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current auto liability insurance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Must have iPad for business use as outlined in Morris company policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  Working in a large office within separate work space with considerable traffic and frequent interruptions. Considerable travel time to and from clients.  Works closely with other employees.


  • Sell the maximum number of inserts, print, Magazine and Internet advertising required to meet and exceed the monthly company budget objectives and individual Standards of Performance.
  • Meet assigned percentage increases and goals as defined by management each month for total revenue and online revenue goals; establish a monthly plan to meet these goals.
  • Complete internal reports for goal setting, progress reports, and commissions in a timely manner.
  • Be personally familiar with each account on individual monthly account list.
  • Make daily sales calls on in-area accounts as needed.
  • Make daily telephone sales calls to in-area and out-of-area accounts as well as in person cold calls to initiate new business. 
  • Provide accurate reports, service requests, and accounting data as needed by each account.
  • Provide current information on rates, lineage, discounts, accent features, inserts, and market information to accounts.
  • Make calls on assigned and unassigned accounts for special projects, special features, and special sections.
  • Update a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system on a daily basis.
  • Manage time for maximum sales benefit.
  • Develop sales proposals to increase customers’ advertising commitment.
  • Coordinate special sales projects as assigned.
  • Offer Internet component to advertisers.
  • Perform other tasks as necessary or assigned by the Advertising Managers and Directors.
